Anybody that’s been a network marketer for any amount of time knows this task is almost impossible with old school methods of chasing your prospects down and pitching your deal on them.

I’ve heard people say “No way I’m not getting into that I don’t want to lose my friends” I remember the first time I heard that; I thought, “what are they talking about losing my friends”? Then it happened to me, I started seeing people trying to avoid me, they would cross the street when they seen me coming and these people were my friends. I was shocked after all I just wanted to help them didn’t I?

Wrong, I was not helping them I didn’t even know what they wanted or needed so how could I help them? All I was doing is seeing my own needs and thinking that my friends needed what I had when the truth is that they didn’t want to be in business for themselves. They had a job they liked so why change that?

Building your network marketing business on a solid foundation isn’t about making a names list or talking to everyone in a 3 foot radius; it’s not about buying leads and doing cold calls, or going to conventions and working on your reason why. In fact, building your network marketing business on a solid foundation is not even about building a downline.

Building a downline using these outdated methods leaves your network marketing business on a shaky foundation. Over 95% of the people that join a MLM never make it past 3 months.

Here’s why…

New recruits are not taught proper marketing skills. Instead they are taught to do the things I mentioned earlier, but the problem is, most of us are uncomfortable with approaching complete strangers about our network marketing business, so you will see very little duplication.

You are then told to start buying leads, but the problem with that is you will need to buy them month after month and even if you get people signing up it will never offset the cost. I don’t know about you, but I got into network marketing to make money, not spend it.

Building a Solid Foundation

Building a solid foundation for your network marketing business starts with learning proper marketing skills and building your online presence. You need to set yourself up in such a way that people will be attracted to you and what you offer. You do this by providing value and never pushing or trying to sell people on your business or product. Nobody likes to be sold, but everybody likes to buy.

You need to learn and understand the problems your target market is going through, then provide solutions to those problems. By doing this your prospects will see you as a valuable asset because you have been providing them value by giving them solutions to their problems.

If you do the work needed to get yourself an online presence properly, then when people come online looking to start a network marketing business they will find you and be attracted to you because of the value in what you offer.

The question you need to ask yourself is: Are you going to continue to use the old-school method of building your MLM on shaky ground or are you going to do what it takes to learn the skills necessary to get an online presence and build your network marketing business on a solid foundation?
